Devil's Food Whirling Cake


2 Cups flour
2 Cups sugar
1/2 Cup Crisco
1 t. salt
3 squares melted semisweet chocolate
3/4 Cup buttermilk

Mix thoroughly by mixer (medium speed for 2 min.) Stir in: 1 1/2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 Cup buttermilk
3 eggs
1 t. vanilla

Mix thoroughly for 2 min. Pour into 2 9" layer pans which are lined with wax paper. Bake 350 for 20-25 minutes. Cool 10 min before removing from pans.

Creamy Icing:
2 T. water
4 1/2 T. sugar (granulated)
2 1/3 Cup powdered sugar
1 egg
2/3 Cup butter
1 T. vanilla

Boil water and granulated sugar together until dissolved. Mix powdered sugar and egg, blend with syrup. Add butter and vanilla. Beat til creamy. Melt 1 square chocolate with 1 T. butter and drizzle over cake.
