From two perspectives…
We both received our Bible training at Dallas Theological Seminary then specialized in different areas. Denise specialized in Christian Psychology and helps people with their motivation to study the Bible. I specialized in teaching and technology and help people with the steps of Bible study and provide an engaging Bible app.
(Our last name, Enete, is tricky. Out of the five letters, three of them are ‘E’s–the first one is long, the second one is short and the last one is silent. We have been married since 1972, have four grown children, and four grandchildren.)
After Dallas Theological Seminary I specialized in Teaching and Technology. I completed a Doctorate of Education and taught on the weekend on the college level. At Dallas Bible College I taught Bible and how to study the Bible. At UCI Extension I taught Java programming using my “Java Jumpstart” book.
During the major part of my career most days were spent working my way up the ladder in software programming. When I left corporate America to begin ministry full-time with Denise I was Chief Architect of AOL.
During this time most of my nights were spent programming my Spectrum Bible™ app. I have been long convinced that a teacher who also programmed could create a Bible app that provided significant assistance to the average Bible reader. My Spectrum Bible™ app has been in the App Store for over 15 years, has a 4.8 star rating, and is free.
When God combined Denise and my gifts and showed us to help people develop personal Bible reading times I took the responsibility to teach the skill of Bible reading.
I fashioned 4 simple steps from Inductive Bible study and adapted it for devotional Bible readers. The 4 steps (Facts, Lessons, Challenges, and Responses) spell FLCR which most people in our classes pronounce “Flicker” as a memory device to remember the steps.
These steps have just enough structure so you always know what to do next but not too much structure to smother your creativity. We have taught these Flicker steps in person to over 3,000 people varying in age from 17 to 93. People from such a wide age range respond to them because they strike that delicate balance between not enough structure and too much structure.
Mike was a particularly interesting student. Mike was 80 years old and came to our class with his wife. On the first class meeting he told everyone he was just there because his wife asked him to come and that he had never been good in school and was not interested in “studying” anything—not even the Bible. Mike was friendly and participated in the class but he had been a career fireman and was not interested in anything that seemed like school.
But after we went over the Flicker Steps and showed him that he was already good at them, he came back the next week excited. “Did you know you could Flicker the newspaper?” Mike announced. “I’m not kidding. This morning I was finding Facts, Lessons, and even a Challenge or two right there in the newspaper. Why didn’t you tell me I could do this?”
The material for our courses is captured in two books, “How to Read the Bible So God Speaks to You” and “Flicker Bible Study.”
4 simple steps. Use the book or the app.
As a way to help you practice Flickering we have also written Flicker Study Guides. They each have 8 passages for you to Flicker with Answers if you get stuck and a devotional commentary at the end of each passage to make sure you are on track.
I designed and programmed the Spectrum Bible™ app from the ground up. It consists of 1 million lines of Objective-C code, has been in Apple’s App Store for 15 years, it has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating, and is free. It currently runs on iPhone, iPad, and Macs that have Apple Silicon. The first version is also available in Google’s Play Store for the Android environment.
I also lead the team of Greek & Hebrew professors that are creating Original Language Nuggets for Spectrum Bible™. These Nuggets provide easy access to the Bible’s original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic words.
With Original Language Nuggets you can “jump the wall” and access the Bible’s original Greek and Hebrew simply.
We have most of the New Testament books available in the in-app store as well as the most important books of the Old Testament.

After Dallas Theological Seminary I specialized in Christian Psychology. When the kids got old enough I completed a Masters and Doctorate of Psychology and had my own private Clinical Psychology practice in Seal Beach, California. I addressed a wide assortment of difficulties but my favorite thing was to integrate Bible principles with principles of good mental health.
I closed my private practice in 2006 to pursue ministry full-time with Noel.
When God combined Noel and my gifts and showed us to help people develop personal Bible reading times I took the responsibility to help people manage their motivation.
More Times with God bite the dust because of mismanaged motivation than any other single factor. God has showed me how to repair my own motivation from my background in psychology and from His teaching to return to your “First Love.” (Revelation 2:4-5)
My part of the book and class show you how to reconnect with that Desire you had for God when you were first saved and how to nurture it so it grows.
If you are able to hook into the Desire God has given you then your Time With God will compete much better with the many other things that demand for your attention because you want to do it.

Here are some of our projects.
This one project makes use all our gifts and skills: Bible, psychology, teaching, and programming. They all work together to help you develop a passion for studying God’s word.
This seminar was given in Cornerstone Church of Long Beach in Spring, 2024. These videos are a good way to learn how to use the Spectrum Bible™ app.
These are the books we use in our classes on Flicker Bible Study. The goal of this series is to help you be a spiritual Self-Feeder.
These videos are a good way to watch the steps of Flicker Bible Study unfold. The Bible passage is very short but I show you how each of the four simple steps is helpful. This seminar was given in the women’s evening fellowship of Cornerstone Church of Long Beach in Spring, 2022.
God gives every believer a 1st Love for Him at the moment of salvation. You can see it in a new believer as he or she is eager to learn everything they can about their new faith. Unfortunately as a believer goes along “life happens” and often their 1st Love can temporarily be covered over. These videos guide you to the path for uncovering it and leveraging it in your Christian walk.
The Lockman Foundation asked me to translate Galatians, Philippians, and Colossians for the NASB 2020 Bible.
During the early days of the Java programming language, Prentice Hall published this book on how to learn the language. UCI Extension picked up on the new book and asked me to teach Java programming to UCI Extension students.
